With exam season just around the corner, it’s not surprising that many students have retreated to the confines of their bedrooms to hibernate and watch unlimited episodes of Riverdale. Now, own up, who’s done that? I know most of us have just to escape our dreaded exam revision. I know it might seem easy to just put it off and think to yourselves “I will start tomorrow”, but how many of us actually start “tomorrow”? Exactly.

I have managed to compile a list of 5 trusty tips that will help you guys cope with exam stress.

So, sit back, relax and grab yourself a cuppa tea.

  1. Set realistic goals

It goes without saying that sometimes, we push ourselves too far in terms of what we are capable of. It is important that we set ourselves realistic goals that we are able to achieve. For example, instead of leaving ALL your exam revision until the night before and still thinking that you could achieve a high 2:1, divide your time up and put in a few hours every day for a week or so and you will reap the benefits.

  1. Take regular breaks

While it is important that you get as much revision done as possible, it is also crucial that you take regular breaks. This could be going out for a coffee with your friend for an hour, or 20 minutes sat on your phone talking to your friends. Either way, try and schedule in fun things that you can look forward to. For instance, knowing that you have a concert next week can motivate you even more so to do revision in the days leading up to it.

  1. Get plenty of sleep

There is a correlation between students who get enough sleep at night and those who do well in exams. It is therefore crucial that you give your body the rest that it needs, say you’ve been studying for 8 hours straight today with only an hour break? Well, then you need to match these hours with the amount of rest that you get.

  1. Eat healthily

Remember that familiar saying, “a healthy body = a healthy mind?”, well, I personally think it’s true! If you are stressing out about exams and constantly filling your body up with junk food then you will feel lethargic and really groggy all-day long. I can honestly say that I know this all too well and have come to realise the importance of eating healthily, especially around exam season! Pro tip: Always eat breakfast before your exams!

  1. Breathe.

Sometimes it’s incredibly hard to do just that, but take a second out of your day to sit back and chill out. You can do this through many outlets such as meditation or yoga and other forms of exercise. Life can get crazy at times, in particular around exams and we forget about the insignificance that they really place over our lives. Of course, you’re at university so you want to do well in your exams, I mean who doesn’t, right? But you have to remember that failing one exam isn’t the be all and end all. There are plenty of alternative options if this happens and you need to remember that your exams don’t dictate the rest of your lives and whether you will be successful or not.

You’ve got this! Don’t give up faith.
